Ippudo is a ramen restaurant chain that originated in Fukuoka, Japan in 1985. Ramen is a popular Japanese dish that has become a culinary art in Japan, with people waiting in line for hours to eat a bowl prepared by a master ramen chef. Ippudo has expanded globally and opened its first international location in New York City in 2008. Since then, it has opened locations in Singapore, London, and the Philippines.
The name Ippudo translates to “one wind hall,” and it was created to blow away the gloomy clouds that were hanging over the Kyushu ramen industry at the time.
The founder and CEO, Shigemi Kawahara, wanted to revolutionize the era by introducing a new style of ramen. Ippudo offers a delicious ramen culture that has captured the hearts of Filipinos who love ramen.
Recently, Ippudo restaurants in Hong Kong and Taiwan have been targeted by a campaign claiming that they use animal cruelty in their supply chain.
The campaign alleges that Ippudo restaurants in Hong Kong and Taiwan use eggs from battery cages that are banned by the European Union Council Directive 1999/74/EC. The campaign has targeted other restaurants under Maxim’s Caterers, who operate Ippudo restaurants in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
